In the interest of promoting the philosophical discussion between Eastern Asia and Europe, texts from the main work of Shōbōgenzō von Dōgen, the great master from the early period of Japanese Zen Buddhism, have been selected, translated and provided with a commentary. These can be read as meditation instructions, as the close-to-nature poetry of life or as a Far Eastern version of what in the Western world is called philosophy. In a well-founded translation which describes the key philosophical terms and which contains a comprehensive introduction and a detailed commentary in German, the book will be of interest to researchers and to interested lay persons as well.
