Female artists in Zimbabwe increasingly show their work and its powerful messages aimed specifically at women, to encourage them to seek equality and similar opportunities as Zimbabwean male artists. They choose to adjust their art to difficult and precarious lives. Musicians, writers and filmmakers like Stella Chiweshe, Tsitsi Dangarembga and Yvonne Vera challenge the stereotypical portrayal of women, present counter-images, give women a voice and demonstrate that women have their own story to tell.
