How does violence in school evolve? What does successful prevention look like? The international empirical research on aggression and violence has contributed to these central questions on scholastic practice. It showed that violence has many causes. An aggressive potential is brought into schools through family, milieu and the media. Violence is also furthered in school. Personal factors, ranging from teacher behaviour to mobbing by classmates, are worse than structural and organisational factors. Enragement and damaging comportment often happen accidentally - nobody wants to hurt others explicitly but envy, the greed for acceptance and the competitive mindset grow.
Pupils, teachers and parents are summoned to find a peaceful style of interaction. Applying a few anti-violence programmes isn?t the answer; the entire school life has to by rebuild into a peaceful form.
