[Theology of Worship. On the Relationship between Theology and Liturgy]
What do they have to do with each other – the pulpit and the seminary, worship and theology? In the last twenty years less and less. The lecture hall is about the discourse on religious texts, about talking about God. In worship, on the other hand, forms of proclamation, confession, music and prayer are presented: according to Christian understanding, a living dialogue with God takes place here.
In his fundamental Tübingen dissertation (first published in 2004) Jochen Arnold places worship and theology of the church in a productive-critical relationship. Under the central concept „theology of worship“ the liturgical communication of the Gospel becomes an object of theological reflection. The Concept and the event of worship become the paradigm of theology and the liturgy the source of inspiration for dogmatic studies.
The book contains a tour d'horizon through international liturgical studies, a conversation with Martin Luther and the analysis of biblical-liturgical primary forms of the liturgy. The liturgy is discovered as source and place of power, gift and task of dogmatics.
