This study deals with the economic impact of the healthcare industry in Germany’s federal states. It covers the compilation and application of the Multiregional Accounts for Healthcare in Germany, depicted in the form of a satellite account for health based on multiregional supply and use tables from the national accounting framework. Hence, it addresses the foundations of the established National Accounts for Healthcare in Germany, describes the steps taken towards developing the Multiregional Accounts for Healthcare in Germany, assesses the general results of the model and applies it in the context of the current challenge of insufficient investment in hospitals in Germany’s federal states.
