The strengthening of children‘s rights through the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and its three additional protocols influences general human rights protection both at the universal and regional level. The provisions of the UN Convention have also an increasingly impact on national legal systems.
The Commentary opens up the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and its three additional protocols historically and systematically by providing a detailed commentary on each article of the Convention. Special consideration is given to
the “General Comments”
the “Concluding Observations” and
the “Views” of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child,
The individual complaints procedure to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child against violations of the Convention on the Rights of the Child is also examined in detail. In addition, comparative legal considerations in relation to other universal and regional human rights conventions are included in each article commentary. Special emphasis is placed on the UN human rights covenants (ICCPR and ICESCR) as well as on the guarantees of the European Convention on Human Rights.
