How can digital technologies promote integration and prosperity in Europe? For decades, digitization has been the spearhead of economic, political and social developments. It has become clear that its effects can transform society - digitization affects all sectors of the global economy and radically changes the way financial transactions are conducted, how governments interact with their citizens and how people interact with each other. Given the global scale of this digital revolution, the European Union and its Member States intend to address the challenges of digitization and promote its benefits. Initiatives and regulations such as GDPR, SEPA, Horizon 2020 and the Digital Single Market are just some of the ongoing projects at European level. However, it remains clear that further work and commitment in these areas is essential to ensure the development of innovative solutions to the problems arising from the most significant global change since the industrial revolution.
