Das Künstlerbuch Detroit zeigt die zeitgenössische Stadtlandschaft der deindustrialisierten Metropole Detroit als Überlagerung von Sozial- und Naturgeschichte. „Ruin Porn“ und „Future City“ sind Schlagwörter, unter denen die ehemalige Motor City aktuell medial gefasst wird. In den Fotografien und Texten beschreibt Franziska Klose sie als eine von der Industrie bedingungslos verbrauchte Landschaft, in deren Struktur sich, ungeachtet aller Beschwörungen einer kommenden Konjunktur, soziale Ungleichheit manifestiert. Die Erzählung vom „Comeback“ wird kontrastiert durch Grundstücksspekulationen und Water Shutoffs aber auch durch das Entstehen einer möglichen Postwachstumsgesellschaft auf Basis urbaner Landwirtschaft und Selbstbestimmung.

Franziska Klose ist Künstlerin und Fotografin. Seit 2010 arbeitet sie zu postindustriellen Landschaften.

The artist’s book Detroit presents the contemporary urban landscape of this de- industrialized metropolis as an overlay of social and natural history. The catchwords “ruin porn” and “future city” are currently being used in the media to describe what was once celebrated as the “Motor City”. In her photographs and texts, Franziska Klose describes a landscape absolutely consumed by industry, its structure a manifestation of social inequality, despite all the conjurations of an imminent economic boom. The story of the “comeback” is set against land speculation and water shut-offs and contrasts with the emergence of a potential post-growth society based on urban agriculture and individual autonomy.
