Thanks to many new sources, an accurate picture emerges of the urban society of Split, which was shaped by Venetian rule and Ottoman advances. From a microhistorical perspective, it examines contacts throughout the Adriatic region in times of crisis, trade and migration flows, how the Ottoman threat was dealt with, multilingualism, and, overall, the living environments of the social groups in this important Dalmatian port city.
