With volume 3 of the series from the World Heritage Centre Wismar, we take you, dear readers, into the building complex of the councilor, mayor, and builder Heinrich Schabbell.
What a remarkable gesture! The owner turned the gable of his main house away from the main street and towards the Frische Grube and St Nikolai, defying Lübeck law. He commissioned Dutch master builders and artists for this project because he envisioned an ensemble that would be truly special, from the positioning of the house and the size of the bricks to the colouring of the interior living spaces, all reflecting his spirit and self-confidence. Since December 2017, the Museum of City History of the Hanseatic City of Wismar has been located in the buildings at Schweinsbrücke 6 and 8.
In 14 articles, the contributing authors not only discuss the museum and its exhibition, but also highlight the buildings themselves as the very first exhibits.
